Juanito became a cult figure at Real Madrid during his 10 years at the club and is perhaps best remembered for his ability to inspire comebacks. The tricky winger was often the driving force for Los Blancos, playing a key role in famous European wins over Celtic, Rijeka, Anderlecht and Inter as well as an incredible turnaround against Borussia Monchengladbach in 1986. Real Madrid lost the first leg 5-1 but managed to win the return 4-0, with Juanita jumping in delight as he was replaced after securing the comeback win.

Madrid are currently in need of a comeback to keep their Champions League hopes alive after going down 3-0 to Arsenal in the first leg of their quarter-final tie. Juanito''s son, Roberto Gomez, has revealed what he thinks about Madrid's chances and also revealed the awful messages he still receives from Atletico fans regarding the death of his father who died in a car accident. He is still remembered at the Santiago Bernabeu by fans who chant 'Illa illa illa, Juanito maravilla' in the seventh minute in his memory.

WHAT JUANITO'S SON SAID

He told Radio Marca: "I don't like to see the lack of respect towards my father, it's painful. Unfortunately, I don't know why, Atletico fans hate him to a brutal degree. It doesn't make much sense. The things people send me are awful. They send me pictures of the car from the crash, awful pictures of that day. These people are sick."

Gomez was asked asked if Real Madrid are capable of turning around the tie: He added: "Of course. [They can] achieve the unthinkable, like against Manchester City, and that this time there are 90 minutes to do it, which at the Bernabéu was always a long time."

Sunderland in talks over deal to sign ÂŁ13m striker after Isidor nightmare

Sunderland are now in talks over a deal to sign a striker this month, with Regis Le Bris in favour of the move, according to a report.

Black Cats keen on a striker

The Black Cats are searching for a new striker this month, in order to strengthen their Championship promotion push, and they have identified a number of targets.

Southampton’s Ben Brereton Diaz was on Le Bris’ shortlist, with the Saints willing to offload the forward this month, but Sheffield United are leading the race for his signature, as he would only consider a move to his former club.

The Blades are also in the running for another Sunderland target, namely Leicester City’s Tom Cannon, and they are also in pole position for the 22-year-old’s signature, having now agreed a ÂŁ13m deal with the Foxes.

As such, the Black Cats may be forced to move on to other options, and they could be well-placed to sign Westerlo striker Mathias Frigan, who they are believed to be seriously interested in signing.

There has now been a promising new update on Sunderland’s pursuit of Frigan, with Germanijak reporting they have now entered talks with Westerlo to discuss the terms of a deal (via Sport Witness).

This comes after Wilson Isidor, who has been fantastic for the club during his loan stay from Zenit, endured a horror evening at Burnley on Friday, seeing two late penalties saved in the same corner by James Trafford.

Le Bris is said to be strongly in favour of Frigan’s arrival, with the manager looking to bolster his squad to aid his side’s chances of returning to the Premier League.

The Championship promotion hopefuls want to sign the Croatian on a loan deal, with a conditional obligation to buy for a fee of €15m (£13m) if they achieve their goal of returning to the top flight.

The 21-year-old is very interested in moving to the Stadium of Light, which may make it easier to get a deal over the line.

Frigan could be a shrewd acquisition for Le Bris

The former Rijeka man didn’t have the best debut season in Belgium, scoring just four goals in 23 league games, but he has already managed to better that goal tally this term, picking up six goals and three assists in 20 outings.

Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has also previously lauded the starlet, likening him to former European Golden Shoe winner Ciro Immobile.

It would be a slight risk to sign Frigan, given that he is unproven in a major league, but a loan deal with an obligation to buy if they win promotion could be a shrewd way of bringing in an impressive striker with less risk. It would take some of the goalscoring pressure off Isidor’s shoulders at a delicate time for the youngster, who admitted Friday was the worst day of his life.

'This crisis crap is nonsense' – Heads are hung, fingers are being pointed, and Greg Vanney and the LA Galaxy are off to the worst title defense in MLS history – what gives?

Beset by injuries, personnel changes and self-inflicted errors on the pitch, the Galaxy are winless and dead last in the West

It was just four months ago that the LA Galaxy triumphantly lifted the 2024 MLS Cup, returning to the top for the first time in a decade, an era in which the roster sported the likes of Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane.

Gabriel Pec, 2024 MLS Newcomer of the Year, spearheaded the playoff run alongside Ghanaian sensation Joseph Paintsil and striker Dejan Joveljic. In the middle of the park, former Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig ran the show, becoming one of the league's most exciting players over the regular season.

Coach Greg Vanney guided the LA Galaxy to a dramatic 2-1 win over the New York Red Bulls that December day in Carson, California, cementing the team's MLS-record sixth title.

The Galaxy were, by all accounts, magnificent.

Their start to 2025 has been anything but. Fast-forward four months, and they're off to the worst title defense in MLS history. LA are winless in eight matches to begin the MLS campaign, were eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions Cup and appear to be a team with little to no identity on the pitch.

They have three draws and five losses through eight weeks, have a minus-9 goal differential and are dead last in the Western Conference. Only CF Montreal have fewer than the Galaxy's three points.

Heads are hanging low, fingers are being pointed and fans are asking, "What gives?"

There's no single answer, but there are reasons why things have not gone to plan. Multiple injuries have plagued their roster and the offseason hit hard in terms of personnel changes – including the departure of Joveljic – and on the pitch, individual errors and a lack of confidence are taking a heavy toll.

There's an expectation that the reigning champs will bounce back, but right now, things are bleak. Why? GOAL takes a look.

During their brilliant 2024 playoff run, Puig recorded a sublime assist in the Western Conference final match against the Seattle Sounders, leading the Galaxy to a 1-0 victory courtesy of an 86th-minute finish from Joveljic. In the closing stages of the match, the Spaniard suffered a torn ACL – but actually finished the game, helping propel the Galaxy the league's title match.

He missed the MLS Cup final, and is expected to miss the majority of the 2025 MLS season, as well.

One of their top performers last campaign with 13 goals and eight assists, Puig was the key component to their midfield and connecting them in transition. He boasted an incredible 87-percent passing rate, while completing a staggering 2,837 passes across the regular season.

Without him available in 2025, the Galaxy have been forced to try and play a different style of the game. No midfielder has been able to replicate his performances in linking all areas of the pitch, while still providing an attacking option. That's been problematic.

In addition to Puig, Paintsil was sidelined to begin the season, missing the first six matches with a lower leg injury. The Ghanaian returned on Matchday 7 – which may offer a glimmer of hope going forward – but his absence, paired with Puig, has loomed large.

Factor in multiple changes throughout the offseason, and it's been a new look LA in 2025.

AdvertisementAFPChanges in personnel

Joveljic parted ways with the Galaxy ahead of the season, swapping clubs for Sporting Kansas City, yielding LA $4M in return. In his place, LA acquired MLS veteran Christian Ramirez from the Columbus Crew, and while Ramirez has begun his tenure with the Galaxy with three goals in six appearances, he's no Joveljic.

MLS Cup MVP Gaston Brugman – Puig's replacement in the final – was also dealt in the offseason. The Uruguayan was exchanged for midfielder Sean Davis from Nashville SC – but before the season even began, the Galaxy unexpectedly waived Davis. Beneath Brugman in their Cup victory sat midfielder Marco Delgado, who also departed LA after winning the championship. In a stunning turn of events, he was traded to crosstown rivals LAFC for just $400,000 in allocation money.

That's three starters in MLS Cup, all departing before the 2025 season even began.

Their opening day roster included five changes to the starting XI from their MLS Cup-winning group. Only one change was made tactically by Vanney, and it was a change in net. MLS veteran John McCarthy was replaced by Serbian shotstopper Novak Micovic.

And the attack? Completely changed. No Puig, no Paintsil and no Joveljic. Just Pec.

The Brazilian winger, who has reportedly caught the eyes of both Liverpool and Arsenal, has struggled to begin 2025 without his three compatriots. The 24-year-old has just one goal and zero assists in six appearances to start the season after scoring 16 and assisting 12 last campaign.

Of course, blaming Pec for their results to start the campaign is entirely misguided – the winger has been left to hang, with little to support in the attack. However, there are immense expectations on his shoulders to elevate his game in 2025, and so far, he's been stagnant.

And beyond the attack, there have been real issues both on defense and in goal.

Getty Images SportIndividual errors

Micovic lasted just three games as their starter, conceding seven goals during that span. In their season opener, a 2-1 loss to San Diego FC, the Serbian misplayed a ball out of the back, leading to a deflection for SDFC's opening goal. It was the start of what has become a series of self-inflicted wounds that have plagued the club in the early season.

“I felt like, through the course of the game there were a lot of uncharacteristically, unforced errors," Vanney said after the game.

Then, in a 2-1 loss to Orlando City on Matchday 6, a last-minute free kick in the 90th minute from Orlando striker Luis Muriel saw the ball slip in and out of the hands of goalkeeper John McCarthy – who returned to the starting XI on Matchday 4 replacing Micovic – to hand the away side three points.

The MLS veteran committed an egregious error that resulted in – at minimum – two points lost.

"For me, there's no question what John McCarthy can do," Vanney said after the match. "This crisis crap is nonsense. We have two good goalkeepers, and they're both very capable. There's one job to do and I know what each of them is capable of doing. John has done it for an entire season. I have the utmost confidence in John… He can bounce back. So he made a mistake and on my team people are allowed to make mistakes. You just got to respond to them the right way and you got to bounce back."

Fast forward one week to Matchday 7, and central defender Mathias "Zanka" Jorgensen was the victim of sloppy defending and a misplayed touch in the box put the ball on a platter for attacker Diego Luna to double Real Salt Lake's lead in an eventual 2-0 victory. Vanney mentioned that "altitude" and the state of the "pitch" both played a role – but ultimately, it was another self-inflicted error.

"I think the field didn't help us out," he said. "But once again, we go back to the same thing. We shoot ourselves in the foot on some of those plays, and we get punished."

Vanney added that it's come a "frustrating" trend. Matchday 8? Another Zanka error, this time getting sent off for a DOGSO offense in the first half. The errors just keep mounting.

Getty Images SportSo what's next?

The return of Paintsil might be the lone positive for LA right now, but for good reason. He logged 59 minutes against RSL on Matchday 7 and in their midweek Champions Cup match against Tigres – a 3-2 loss that eliminated them from the competition – he bagged one of their two goals.

On Matchday 8 he logged his first 90 minutes of the year. The Ghanaian offers a different look in their attack, and there's a chance that with his return, his previous partnership with Pec will help elevate his Brazilian teammate's game as well.

However, LA's prospects for the rest of the season could depend on how Vanney handles the coming weeks. With the elimination from the Champions Cup, LA now only has the regular season to focus on until the start of the Leagues Cup

“We need to mature more as a group and recognize the ebbs and flows in the game, and understanding when to take risk, when to not take risk, how to play in our vision," Vanney said after their elimination from the CONCACAF competition. "But also be be smart and be competent not to make errors that ultimately come back to hurt you in the long run, especially in a knockout tournament.

“We've got to stop putting ourselves in these deficits where we're having to fight back. We need to execute better if we want to turn these games into positive results so that we can start focusing on building ourselves back in the league one game at a time.”

Emily Arlott half-century seals victory for Sparks over Sunrisers

Both sides entered final group game with no hope of reaching knockout stage, but Sparks ended on a high

ECB Reporters Network17-Sep-2022Central Sparks rounded off their Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy campaign with an emphatic 139-run win over Sunrisers at Worcester. Both sides went into their final group game with hopes of qualification for the knockout stage over but Sparks at least ended on a high after piling up 260 for 9 and then rattling out their opponents for just 121.Their hefty total was built by a solid collective effort led by Emily Arlott (63, 73 balls), supported by Abi Freeborn (46, 45) and 16-year-old Davina Perrin (45, 51). Mady Villers took 3 for 44 for Sunrisers.Sunrisers then completed their campaign without a win after Grace Scrivens (61, 75) offered lone resistance, no one else reaching 15. Perrin completed her excellent day with 3 for 26.Sunrisers chose to bowl and quickly took a big wicket when Villiers bowled skipper Eve Jones through an attempted cut in the fifth over but Perrin and Freeborn added 77 in 12 overs. Jodie Grewcock hit back by bowling Perrin and Ami Campbell in the space of five balls, but the Sparks’ middle order fired effectively.Arlott struck eight fours and a six and Sarah Glenn (33, 38 balls, four fours and a six) injected impetus which took the Sparks’ total from solid to imposing.Faced with some scoreboard pressure, Sunrisers needed a strong start but an immediate brake was applied by the accuracy of Grace Potts. The opening stand of 23 between Scrivens and Jodie Grewcock occupied eight overs before the latter played on to Arlott, her five runs having taken 25 balls.Naomi Dattani started purposefully with three fours in a cameo of 13 but after she edged Potts and was smartly taken by wicketkeeper Freeborn, standing up to the stumps, Scrivens was starved of further support. The last seven wickets fell for 58 runs as Perrin ran through the middle order and Glenn added two wickets to her earlier important contribution with the bat.Scrivens reached a valiant 66-ball half-century before she was last to fall, run out by Georgia Davis’s throw from mid off, a predatory piece of fielding which encapsulated an all-round impressive display by Sparks.

Their next Barkley: Everton make enquiry to sign "superstar in the making"

Everton have started the (second) David Moyes era with promise, losing narrowly against Aston Villa but then following that disconcerting defeat with an extraordinary Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur.

More attacking intent was showcased at Goodison Park than had been even fractionally with Sean Dyche at the helm, but it’s clear that there is work to be done in order to break away from the relegation fodder and back toward the limelight.

Everton manager Sean Dyche

It’s been a while, but the Toffees are looking to grow and have set their sights on a talented midfielder to advance the project.

Everton looking to sign PL midfielder

According to transfer insider Ben Jacobs, speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Everton are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka this month.

TFG are understood to have already made a loan enquiry for the progressive midfielder, who has found game time hard to come by since leaving Aston Villa for Stamford Bridge for ÂŁ20m in August 2022.

Chelsea are willing to sell the 21-year-old but have set a ‘hefty price tag’ on his signature, with other sources supposing his market value to stand at ÂŁ40m.

What Carney Chukwuemeka would bring to Everton

Chukwuemeka might not have enjoyed the most productive time in Chelsea’s first team, but this is hardly to the detriment of his obvious qualities.

Chelsea's Carney Chukwuemeka in action

Since joining, he’s only clocked up 32 appearances, scoring two goals and one assist. Talent scout Jacek Kulig has described him as a “superstar in the making” and he might thrive in more settled conditions on Merseyside.

Unfortunately, Chukwuemeka’s data pool under Enzo Maresca’s leadership has been slim, but his sole Conference League start, against Astana, showed that he has the many-faceted skill set to become one of the finest midfielders in Everton’s modern history, perhaps stepping into the shoes of someone like Ross Barkley, who coincidentally move to Chelsea from Everton.

Barkley has since revived his career after struggling in west London, but it’s hard to dispute that there was a certain avidity to the powerful midfielder when he moved through the gears with Everton, hailed for his “dangerous” style by former boss Ronald Koeman.

A rapid rise saw him become an Everton regular and he amassed 179 outings, posting 27 goals and 25 assists, before finally departing in 2017 after notching 13 goal contributions in the 2016/17 Premier League season, averaging 2.4 key passes and winning 4.8 duels per game, also completing 64% of his dribbles, as per Sofascore.

His dynamic talent was patent, and now Chukwuemeka – another player filled with creative gile and duel-winning ability – could emulate that presence with a fine blend of physicality and technical flair.

For such a “phenomenal talent,” as he has been called by Sky Sports’ Melissa Reddy, Chukwuemeka deserves to be featuring regularly for a team that recognises his worth and applies it effectively on the field.

Chelsea pinched Barkley from Goodison Park but failed to give rise to his best football. Now, Everton can strike back, ensuring Chukwuemeka realises his potential under Moyes’ wing.

Alongside Dorgu: Amorim could unleash "ridiculous" rarely-seen Man Utd teen

Manchester United host Leicester City at Old Trafford in the fourth round of the FA Cup tonight, looking to move one step closer to securing their first trophy under boss Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils will be looking to replicate the performance produced against Arsenal in the previous round, knocking the Gunners out of the competition on penalties – made even more impressive by doing so with ten men.

However, it hasn’t been plain sailing for the 40-year-old since the third-round triumph, losing two Premier League matches on home soil against Brighton and Crystal Palace.

Manchester United manager RubenAmorim

Tonight’s game presents the boss with another opportunity to experiment with his squad to try and fine-tune the best out of the current crop of players after the closure of the transfer window earlier this week.

His side wasn’t the most active in the market, with Amorim only making one new first-team addition during his first window at the club, but the new man could be in line for his first appearance after his move to the North West.

Patrick Dorgu could be set for his first United appearance

United’s only senior signing came in the form of left-back Patrick Dorgu, who moved to the club in a £30m deal from Serie A side Lecce during the last few days of the window.

The Dane comes into the club after making 23 appearances during the first half of the season with the Italian outfit, hopefully solving one of the club’s long-term issues with his arrival.

Luke Shaw has been a constant injury worry for Amorim since his appointment, with the Englishman picking up yet another issue as confirmed by the manager in his pre-match press conference.

Tyrell Malacia is another full-back who’s struggled with fitness issues, subsequently joining PSV Eindhoven on loan for the remainder of the season to try and build up his minutes after struggling upon his return to action.

As a result, the Red Devils have been left light in the aforementioned area, with real hope placed on the 20-year-old to offer the immediate and long-term solution they’ve so desperately sought after.

Amorim confirmed in his pre-match press conference that he’s available for the clash with Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side tonight, potentially featuring alongside another young player who’s yet to make an appearance for the Red Devils.

The Man United teen who could feature alongside Dorgu

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have often shared the responsibility of leading the line for United so far in 2024/25, but have massively struggled under the expectations of the supporters.

The pair have both failed to score in 2025 so far, with Amorim opting to use Kobbie Mainoo in a false nine role last weekend – highlighting the lack of threat he currently has at his disposal.

With tonight’s clash a cup outing, it could hand the boss the perfect opportunity to hand Chido Obi Martin his first minutes for the club after his summer move from Arsenal.

The 17-year-old arrived to link up with the academy and U23 side, hitting the ground running and demonstrating his clinical nature in front of goal – something which the first team have desperately been missing.

The Dane has already scored nine times in just eight appearances for the U18 outfit, leading to one talent scout dubbing the young talisman as “ridiculous”.

It’s hard to argue with such a statement given his height, pace and finishing ability, undoubtedly having a huge future ahead of him at Old Trafford should he continue on the same upward trajectory.

There’s no denying that the jump from academy football to the professional game is a huge one and a move that might take players time to adapt to, but given Obi Martin’s exploits in front of goal, it could be his opportunity to catapult himself into the manager’s plans.

United’s current striking predicament has left a gap wide open for someone to stake their claim, with Amorim needing to trust youth once more and hand the teenager the platform to make his mark at the Theatre of Dreams tonight.

Australia take cautious approach with Stoinis and Marsh ahead of World Cup

David Warner may also sit out the warm-up match against India with his stiff neck

Alex Malcolm15-Oct-2022Australia are still managing the bowling loads of allrounders Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh to avoid any injury recurrence just a week out from their first match of the T20 World Cup while David Warner could be rested from the final warm-up game against India on Monday due to his neck issue.Stoinis suffered a side injury in September and missed both T20I series against India and West Indies. He returned against England last week and bowled in the first two matches of the three-match T20I series but played as a batter only in last night’s washed-out third game in Canberra.Stoinis first had major side problems back in the 2019 World Cup and has had a number of related injuries and layoffs since. Australia’s medical staff have identified that recurrences have often come about for Stoinis after returning too quickly to match-intensity bowling in back-to-back games following a layoff. Australia captain Aaron Finch explained that they were being cautious with him just a week out from Australia’s first Super 12 match against New Zealand at the SCG.Related

“Stoinis, the reason he wasn’t available to bowl yesterday was just prior injury history, every time that he’s tried to come back and ball back-to-back games coming off the same injury he has struggled and got a niggle on the back of it,” Finch said. “So we went with the conservative route there.”Meanwhile, Marsh did not bowl in any of the games against West Indies and England and has not bowled in a match since injuring his ankle in the ODI series against Zimbabwe in August. Marsh did have a run through in the pre-game warm-ups in Canberra and he was hopeful of returning to the bowling crease in Monday’s final practice game against India in Brisbane.”Mitch has been building up his bowling at the moment,” Finch said. “He just hasn’t been at the intensity to go into a game that’s required especially so close to a World Cup.”The bowling of Marsh, Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell is vital to Australia’s balance given their preference to play seven batters and just four specialist bowlers, with the three allrounders providing coverage as the fifth bowler and giving a variety of match-up options for Finch.Stoinis’ absence and Marsh’s inability to bowl was the reason why Cameron Green played so many games in the lead-up to the World Cup despite not being in the 15-man squad. Green also opened in all of the games he played with Finch sliding down the order in the three home fixtures against West Indies and England. Australia preferred to have their captain fill the more difficult middle-order role when Green was in the team while allowing the youngster to swing freely at the top of the order.David Warner hurt his neck while fielding on Wednesday•Getty ImagesFinch confirmed he would definitely open in the World Cup. Warner will partner Finch but he may not play in Australia’s final warm-up game against India having missed the third T20I against England due to whiplash in his neck.Warner suffered the injury while fielding on Wednesday night in the second match of the series. He was able to bat after suffering the injury on Wednesday and even managed to play golf in Canberra on Thursday. But he woke up stiff on Friday and was ruled out of the final encounter. Finch wasn’t concerned whether Warner played on Monday or not.”I think he would definitely be right for New Zealand,” Finch said. “I’m not sure about the warm-up game against India. I think he was okay the day after he hit his head and then the following day, his neck got really sore and stiff.”We’ll wait and see what it’s like. If he’s fit he’ll play. If he’s still a little bit sore, we’d err on the side of caution. I think when you’ve got experienced players who know what they need to do to be ready for a tournament, you’re not too concerned whether they play that game or not.”

“Yeah. So there's part of me, I try to put myself in the shoes of an Inter Miami season ticket holder, right. You you pay to see this team,” Lalas said on his podcast. “You pay to see this team that has been sold to you in every sense of the word on a consistent basis for the stars that they have obviously Messi and and and company."

He added, “So this is your home stadium. You go out and you see this team and it bears very little resemblance to what the full team is. And I'm not saying that there isn't moments where players are going to have to rest. We've even seen Messi at times rest because of whatever injury he may have or just be being tired.

“I get that. But I do think that Inter Miami, you have a responsibility when you are playing, certainly when you're playing at home and more so when you are playing at home, to give the people what they have paid their money for.”

Lalas also expanded on how disrespectful it was towards FC Dallas and how the away side made them pay for that.

“And that is a quality team. And maybe they thought that they could find a way past Dallas with this different version of the team and a lesser version of the team. But that's disrespectful to a team like Dallas, and Dallas made them pay, and you sent everybody home saying this was not worthy of our best quality,” Lalas continued.

“And what does that say to somebody who is going to hope is going to continue to buy season tickets? Oh, and by the way, continue to buy season tickets when Messi is no longer there in the future.”

The former USMNT defender also opened up on Vancouver Whitecaps star Sebastian Berhalter and his form this season, asserting that he could do a job for the USMNT. Lalas did add that while Berhalter won’t be a flashy star or a game-changer, he’ll offer something consistent that Pochettino needs.

“Yeah,” Lalas said when asked if Sebastian Berhalter deserves a call up. “So it's relative to where we are right now. And I think you would agree with me that there is consternation out there and there is concern. And as we said, we've used the word apathy out there when it comes to this national team. What that means is there is opportunity. There's opportunity for change.

He added, "But when we start to see, you know, the Brian Whites and in this case this question was about Sebastian Berhalter. Sebastian Berhalter, speaking of players that have improved from year to year, this is a guy who has done so, and is he flashy? No. Is he even a game changer when it comes to potentially here with the national team? No. But I think he's worth a flyer on for Mauricio Pochettino coming into this summer for the Gold Cup with the understanding that ultimately you're going to be judged next summer in the actual World Cup."

“But there is a question as to do you have the right collection of players? It's not the best players, it's the best collection of players, and who knows, maybe someone like Sebastian comes in and is just simple and is predictable in the most positive sense and provides Pochettino with something that's not sexy but gets the results that you need. And I think that from a Pochettino perspective, if there is to be success next summer, it's not going to be in a romantic version. It's not going to be sexy.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The controversy highlights the unique challenges MLS faces as it accommodates aging global superstars while maintaining competitive balance. Inter Miami's handling of its star-studded roster, which includes Messi, Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, has become a focal point for discussions about competitive integrity, fan expectations, and the league's evolving approach to marquee players amid a congested schedule.
