Fantasy Football: The best FPL performers during GW3

Another week of Fantasy Premier League down, and what a strange and unpredictable gameweek it was. There were big wins for both Leicester and West Ham – with some great points being earned in both fixtures.

As per usual, we will be taking a look at the top performers from each position in Fantasy Premier League this week – highlighting how and why they earned their points total, and whether they may be a good inclusion into your side for gameweek 4.

So without further ado, let’s dive in and showcase some of the best players from this weekend…

Goalkeeper: Illan Meslier – 10 points

The young Frenchman had a fantastic game against Sheffield United on Sunday – managing 10 points. The 20-year-old managed four saves against the Blades, earning him 1 point towards his total, as well as keeping a clean sheet which added another four points. During the game, Meslier managed two world-class saves from point-blank range to prevent Sheffield from scoring, which earned him the spoils of the bonus points ranking with three at the end of the game.

Those points along with the minute’s points rounded his total to 10 and made him the highest-earning goalkeeper for GW3. Leeds face Manchester City this Saturday, and it is unsure how that game may play out – but Meslier is certainly a fantastic option for the coming weeks at just £4.5m.

Defender: Arthur Masuaku & Tyrone Mings – 12 points each

Both Tyrone Mings and Arthur Masuaku managed 12 points this weekend in Fantasy Premier League, making them joint-top on the list of points for defenders. Mings managed to keep a clean sheet giving him the four points needed, as well as scoring a goal for Villa giving him another 6 points.

The defender did receive a yellow card, however, meaning he received -1 points, which would have made him top the list if it hadn’t;t been for the disciplinary. West Ham fullback Masuaku also managed a clean sheet as well as an assist, giving him 7 points towards his total – that coupled with his minute’s points and a bonus three gave him his 12 points, tieing with Tyrone Mings this gameweek. Villa faces Liverpool for GW4, with West Ham facing Leicester, so the pair may be better left untouched.

Midfielder: Jarrod Bowen – 15 points

West Ham hard a barnstormer of a weekend, winning 4-0 against Wolves – with two of those goals coming from Jarrod Bowen. The Englishman enjoyed his best performance in a Hammers shirt this weekend, with his first brace in the Premier League.

His two goals earned him 10 points towards his total, as well as a point for the club keeping a clean sheet – and as well as receiving two bonus points and the obligatory minutes points rounded his total to 15 for gameweek 3, making him the highest-earning midfielder for this GW3 in West Ham’s first win of the season. The Hammers face Leicester City this weekend, making a tough game for David Moyes’ side, meaning Bowen may be better left alone for GW4.

Forward: Jamie Vardy – 17 points

The 33-year-old appears to be aging like a fine wine, managing a hattrick this weekend against Manchester City in the Foxes 5-2 win over the Cityzens. Unsurprisingly, this made Vardy the top points scorer out of any forward for gameweek 3 with 17 points.

His three goals gave him 12 points towards his final total, as well as receiving the top accolade for the bonus points with three. Those points on top of the 2 extra for playing the minimum amount of minutes gave the Englishman his final total, putting him four points ahead of second-placed Callum Robinson for West Brom. The Foxes face West Ham for GW4, and Vardy may be a great option to transfer in if not already in your squad.

Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs set to beat Arsenal to Kim Min-jae; could use Son Heung-min to help

As the transfer window gets nearer and nearer, Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with plenty of big names, but no moves have materialised so far.

However, this may all be about to change, as Tottenham are reportedly the front-runners to sign Beijing Guoan defender Kim Min-jae this summer. According to The Mirror, via HITC, Spurs are leading the race for Kim ahead of a number of Premier League rivals, including Arsenal.

Kim, who is nicknamed ‘Monster’, and Son Heung-min are international teammates for South Korea and the club could use this to their advantage.

Beijing Guoan are willing to let him leave for around £13.5m, which should be more than affordable. Although Daniel Levy has made it clear that Jose Mourinho will be strapped for cash in the summer, this seems to be well inside the club’s tight budget.

Despite his young age, the 23-year-old has already won 30 caps for his country, scoring three goals so far. He notably won a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games with the national team which earned him military privileges. Standing at 1,90m tall, which is roughly 6’2, the South Korean cuts an imposing figure at the back.

Mourinho faces an exodus of defenders when the transfer market opens as Jan Vertonghen and Juan Foyth appear to be on their way out the door.

It is hardly surprising Mourinho is interested in a defender of his build. Indeed, the Portuguese was keen to sign Harry Maguire during his time in charge of Manchester United. While he missed out on signing Maguire at Old Trafford, Kim is a cheaper option.

Spurs were originally linked with the youngster two years ago and they are confident they can get the deal done with Son’s help.

Tottenham fans, should Daniel Levy sign Kim in the summer? Let us know in the comments below!

Chelsea: Blues agree five-year deal with £7.3m wage packet for Kai Havertz

Chelsea have reportedly agreed personal terms with major summer transfer target Kai Havertz.

According to transfer expert Nico Schira (via Daily Express), Blues director Marina Granovskaia has worked her magic on a lucrative deal for the 21-year-old. The report claimed that Chelsea have tabled a contract worth £7.3m per year in wages plus add-ons, which will tie Havertz to the west London club until 2025.

The German’s wages will see him pocket a handsome £140,000 per week, making him one of the highest earning players at the club, according to Spotrac.

All that is left to finalise is a transfer fee for Havertz’s services, which a previous report claimed could be chiselled down to €70m (£63.3m). According to SportBild (via Sport Witness), Granovskaia is working on securing a lower amount to get the deal over the line, despite Leverkusen originally wanting €100m (£90.4m).

With personal terms agreed and the likelihood of a fee being met over the coming days or weeks, Frank Lampard is one step closer to getting his hands on Havertz. The playmaker has been described as the 42-year-old’s ‘dream’ signing and could contribute plenty to Chelsea’s already potent attack.

West Ham: Fans don’t agree with tweet about Arthur Masuaku

An Everton fan has posted a thread on Twitter talking about the Premier League’s most underrated players and he has suggested that Arthur Masuaku is the most underrated footballer at West Ham. This has caused a lot of Hammers fans to heavily disagree.

The left-back has played 91 times for the club since his move to East London, and has even managed to pick up one goal and seven assists, via Transfermarkt. However he has recently been dropped by David Moyes and doesn’t look to be coming back into the starting eleven anytime soon as the Scotsman favours Aaron Cresswell.

Even though the 26 year-old does get heavily criticised by the fanbase, as shown in the replies to this tweet, he has managed on average 2.6 tackles this campaign, via WhoScored, and going forward, he completes 1.6 dribbles a game. However he is dispossessed at least 1.3 times a game and for a player in his position this is something you cannot afford to do.

Maybe the full-back does put in slightly better performances than the Hammers faithful feel, however to call him the most underrated player is probably a bit too much.

Here is what fans had to say following the tweet:

Arthur Masuaku.

Serious baller. Very much looked down upon. Can defend. Can attack. Got hit a free kick. Can cross. Very good left back. pic.twitter.com/vXeQMtkvJo

Sheffield Wednesday: Fans urge Garry Monk to forget about trying to tie down Morgan Fox

Garry Monk has admitted he will beÂdisappointed to see Morgan Fox leave at the end of the month.Â

After a successful outing to Ashton Gate, the Sheffield Wednesday boss has reflected on losing one of the side’s key players. The Owls were victorious against Bristol City, returning to Hillsborough with a 2-1 win under their belts. Of course, the team and fans alike are happy to come away with a victory, but Monk has other things on his mind.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live, the 41-year-old said: “I have loved working with him [Fox]. I am hugely disappointed that he is not staying here. It is sad to lose him. I will be trying to persuade him on the bus journey home to extend at least!”

The left-back is amongst 14 senior players whose contracts are expiring at Wednesday. Whilst some opted to extend their deals until the end of the season, the ex-Charlton man did not and will now depart (BBC Sport), meaning his substitute appearance against the Robins looks to be his last in blue and white.

Following their win in Bristol, the Owls have moved up the table and now sit in 13th place on 52 points. Wednesdayites just want to live in the moment and have responded to Monk’s comments on Fox, with one tweeting ‘Don’t spoil a good day Garry’.

Tottenham XI we expect Jose Mourinho to select vs Olympiacos

Tottenham Hotspur go into Jose Mourinho’s first Champions League match in charge of the club against Olympiacos knowing that three points will take them through to the knockout stages of the competition.

It was something that looked potentially in doubt following a draw with Olympiacos and a home thrashing by Bayern Munich, but successive big victories against Red Star Belgrade have put them back in the driving seat to finish as likely runners-up to Bayern Munich in Group B.

Of course, since then Mauricio Pochettino has been axed and replaced by Jose Mourinho, who got his reign off to a winning start with a 3-2 success against arch-rivals West Ham United at the London Stadium at the weekend.

Will the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager make any changes for this one though?

Here is the XI we think the 56-year-old will select against the Greek giants at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

At times – especially this season – Pochettino has been something of a tinker man, but we don’t foresee too many changes from Mourinho for this one.

In fact, we only expect Ben Davies to be replaced by Danny Rose because of the knock he picked up against the Irons that saw him replaced, with Paulo Gazzaniga, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez all keeping their spots.

There is another change in the other full-back role though, as we believe the Portuguese Head Coach will give Kyle Walker-Peters a chance to show what he can do in place of Serge Aurier, in what would be his first appearance since September.

Ahead of the backline, we expect Tanguy Ndombele to partner Eric Dier in midfield with Harry Winks dropping to the bench, while we think Mourinho will also pick exactly the same front four who impressed against West Ham – Son Heung-min, Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane.

That of course means there is still no room in the XI for Giovani Lo Celso – who was an unused substitute against Manuel Pellegrini’s men – and Ryan Sessegnon, who was left out altogether in east London.

In other news, lots of Tottenham fans think Pochettino favourite could be on his way after Mourinho’s comments…

Leeds fans react to Andrea Radrizzani tweet

Leeds United fans have been gushing over what the club has been up to recently after chairman Andrea Radrizzani tweeted a series of images.

The Whites staff have been helping out the local community as well as the NHS by what appears to be packing food essentials, and supporters at Elland Road have been lapping it up on Twitter.

With no football action on the pitch, the west Yorkshire outfit have been trying to contribute in any way possible, so no wonder the chief-in-command is proud of the work his staff are doing in these devastating times.

Leeds’ promotion push is currently on pause with them sat top of the Championship standings, holding a seven-point cushion over the dreaded playoff zone with just nine games remaining.

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

They are arguably favourites to clinch a return to the Premier League, which in turn would end a 16-year hiatus and bring copious amounts of joy to the United faithful.

Man City’s battle with Liverpool could be won & lost at full-back

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Manchester City will travel to Anfield this Sunday as they take on league leaders Liverpool. The clash is set to be the biggest match of the season, as a win for the Reds puts them nine clear of the champions in the table.

The Reds are the only unbeaten side left in the Premier League, and Pep Guardiola is going to need the best from all his men across the pitch.

One position in which this match could be won or lost for City is the full-back slots. The players in this area of the pitch have varied in form and effectiveness in both attack and defence. So far, Guardiola has altered the full-back spots with Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo at right-back, and Angelino and Benjamin Mendy at left-back in Oleksandr Zinchenko’s absence.

Walker came back in for Joao Cancelo over the weekend and underlined his credentials as a potent attacking weapon in the second half. His goal and assist earned all three points for City, however, his defensive capabilities could be a huge worry against Sadio Mane.

As for Cancelo, he has certainly been more of a defensive unit. The former Juventus man has averaged 2.4 tackles in the league so far. The Englishman has, however, averaged only 0.6 tackles per game and at the same time, averaged one foul per league match.

Guardiola will have to make a decision whether to go with more of an attack-minded plan with Walker or try and stop Mane with Cancelo’s defensive expertise.

The same applies to Mendy on the other side, who has averaged even less with 0.3 tackles, which is a worry against the threat of Mohamed Salah.

There is then the chance Angelino could play but the Spaniard lacks a lot of experience. The left-back has just eight appearances for City, which would surely have Salah licking his lips at the prospect of getting at the 22-year-old.

With Zinchenko out injured, it is such a tough decision to make for Guardiola and one that could win or lose the game. Does he go with a defensively suspect player in Mendy or is the City boss confident in Angelino, despite his lack of game time?

Either way, both Mane and Salah will get at them, and both of City’s full-backs will need to be at their immense best to nullify their collective threat.

Liverpool fans want Xherdan Shaqiri to get more playing time

Big news for Liverpool: Xherdan Shaqiri is back in full training for the Reds.

The Switzerland international has been struggling with a calf injury, which has kept him out of the action since September. During that time, he has missed eight of the Anfield outfit’s games, but now it looks as though he could be in contention for their clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The £22.5m-valued former Bayern Munich man – as per Transfermarkt – has been a valuable rotation option since joining from Stoke City following their relegation last term.

In 34 matches in all competitions, he scored six goals and provided five assists last season, including a brace against Manchester United. As we approach a busy Christmas period, his return to the fray could be a big boost to Jurgen Klopp.

There is certainly plenty of positivity from the club’s supporters, and it seems that many are calling for him to play as soon as possible. They have been reacting to the news on social media platform Twitter, and you can see some of the best comments below.

Crystal Palace fans slam Wilfried Zaha

Crystal Palace’s impressive start to the 2019/20 Premier League campaign has seen the Eagles rise to sixth in the league under the management of Roy Hodgson, but one player’s showing in the club’s defeat to Manchester City has got some fans speaking honestly about their opinions on his performance.

Ivorian winger Wilfried Zaha, 26, has excelled since re-arriving at Selhurst Park in 2015 following a move to Manchester United, so much so that reports had linked the forward with a move to either Arsenal or Everton in the 2019 summer transfer window.

Yet Zaha’s performance in the club’s 2-0 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s City on Saturday has led to some fans criticising his inability to step up against the Premier League’s elite sides, with suggestions that it could be his potential pitfall in earning a move away from the south London outfit and why he won’t ‘make it’ at a top-six side.

Indeed, a number of Eagles fans have been making their feelings clear after a sub-standard performance against the Citizens on Saturday. Here are some of the best reactions from Palace supporters after Zaha’s latest display below…
